THE proposed closure of three underpasses near Coate Water has faced heavy criticism. Several Adver readers were not keen on the idea of more pedestrian crossings being added to Queens Drive once the subways were decommissioned. Others thought it would be a waste of money while a few questioned why a better solution had still not been found to fix the frequent flooding that happens whenever heavy rain hits Swindon. The underpasses under Queens Drive and Marlborough Road flooded five times last year. James Bullock: “Just maintain and sort out the drainage. Don’t need more crossings on Queens Drive, too many traffic lights there already.”
