The city is partnering with the Kiwanis for a Fourth of July festival and fireworks. The Kiwanis generously fund the fireworks display. The city's in charge of location, set up, police, fire and traffic. The original plan was to hold the festival at Dickens Farm Nature Area and launch fireworks across Boston from Fire Training Center. After many concerns were raised, including the harm caused with 8,000-10,000 people congregating on protected open space property, plans are being revisited.
