Hamilton school board s plan to remove memorial to Devan Selvey meets with opposition
As Hamilton s public school board plans to remove an outdoor memorial started after the 2019 stabbing death of student Devan Selvey, his mother Shari-Ann Selvey says the site serves as a message to stay vigilant. A petition against removing the shrine has garnered hundreds of signatures.

Rilstone, who is 70 years old, was also the victim of bullying decades ago.
After all those years, reading about Selvey s death brought back horrible feelings, he said. It also spurred him to launch a petition to have the Hamilton city council rename Parkdale Park the Devan Selvey Memorial Park. Back in the early 1960s, I started at a new high school and I was immediately bullied, Rilstone said. The similarity is incredible.
