Sheldon, Iowa Former Sheldon 2nd Ward City Councilman Shawn Broesder’s resignation from his Council position became effective Wednesday, April 7th, and the remaining Council members have been looking at the machinations of filling that Council seat.
The Council had previously chosen to take the option of appointing someone to fill the remainder of Broesder’s unexpired term, which runs through the end of this year. At their meeting Wednesday afternoon, one of the agenda items was the adoption of the procedures for an appointment to the position and the setting of a public hearing on the topic. However, during the Public Forum at the beginning of the meeting, a 2nd Ward resident informed the Council that she is in the process of circulating a petition to force a special election to fill that seat. Just ten signatures are required on such a petition to force an election. She told the Council that she expected to complete obtaining signatures and to turn the signed
Oostra says the businesses and two organizations team up to make Merry Money available.
(as said:) “The SCDC office partners with the marketing committee and we offer a 5% discount we cover the 5% and then the participating businesses take a 5% discount on their sales. So that’s where the 10% discount comes in.”
So, Oostra says it’s just like saving ten percent on all your holiday purchases or other purchases for that matter, as long as you make those purchases by Christmas Eve, December 24th.
There are 43 different Sheldon businesses that are taking part in the Merry Money program this year. Again, the last day to use your Merry Money is this Thursday Christmas Eve Day December 24th.

Sheldon, Iowa A new holiday event makes its debut on Friday December 11th at the Sheldon Crossroads Event Center. Its Holly Jolly Hoopla.
The idea was hatched in January of this year but had to be scaled back somewhat due to COVID-19 guidelines but a lot of activities will still make up the day. Following the Governor’s press conference Thursday it’s important to note social distancing will be strictly adhered to along with the mandatory wearing of masks.
Holly Jolly Hoopla is set to run from for 5:00 – 8:00 at the event center. Sheldon Chamber Director Shantel Oostra told KIWA what will be happening on Friday.
