BCA: Pair of brothers shot and killed by police officer Saturday in Wadena County

NORTH GERMANY TOWNSHIP, Minn. (FOX 9) - A pair of brothers from Sebeka, Minnesota have been identified as the victims of a police shooting Saturday night in Wadena County.
According to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, 42-year-old David Savela and 36-year-old Shannon Savela both died of multiple gunshot wounds in the incident that occurred in North Germany Township, Minnesota after 9 p.m. Saturday.
Two law enforcement officers were also shot in the incident. They were Wadena County Deputy Troy Mayer, an 11-year veteran, and Sebeka Police Officer Jason Worm, a 10-year veteran. Mayer deployed his Taser and was shot and injured Saturday night. Worm was struck by gunfire in his bullet-resistant vest and was uninjured. Both men are on standard administrative leave.

Minnesota investigators say an exchange of gunfire between a police officer and two brothers who were shot and killed on a road near Sebeka began when one of the suspects open fire on the officer and a sheriff’s deputy. Authorities say brothers David Savela and Michael Savela, both of Sebeka, were killed Saturday night in the shooting that happened after one of the brothers was pulled over after a brief chase. The incident escalated when the other brother arrived on scene. Authorities say Shannon Savela opened fire on Sebeka Police Officer Jason Wurm and Wadena County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Mayer. Wurm eventually shot both of the brothers. Mayer was treated for a gunshot wound and released. Wurm was struck by gunfire in his bullet resistant vest but was not injured.
WADENA Authorities have identified the two men who died during an officer-involved shooting Saturday night near Wadena.

Authorities say Wadena County Deputy Troy Mayor attempted to pull over David Savela s vehicle for speeding shortly before 9:00 p.m. A struggle happened between the deputy and Savela.
A second vehicle, driven by Shannon Savela, then came to the scene, followed by officer Jason Worm from the Sebeka Police Department.

They re identified as Troy Meyer, who s a Wadena County Deputy and Sebeka Police Officer Jason Worm. Meyer was injured, worm was saved by his bulletproof vest. A civilian passenger was inside the deputy s car, and was not injured.
