Marshalltown Area United Way reached its campaign goal of $780,000 on Friday – the last day of the campaign.
Executive Director Nancy Steveson said despite the unusual year 2020 was, Marshalltown residents proved themselves to be truly generous.
It was a great way for Steveson to retire from her role. Kendra Sorenson will be the new executive director at the beginning of February.
“We are very excited to meet the goal,” she said. “In light of COVID, and after the derecho – we are still displaced from that – we are just ecstatic to meet this goal.”
Following the August derecho, United Way was moved from the Fisher Community Center, which was condemned. Since then, the organization has been operating out of a space in the old YMCA building.
