The eviction of roughly three-dozen people from a homeless encampment behind the YMCA has been called off, at least for the time being.
“We came together today and the city did not proceed to remove anyone under the parking lot,” said Marie Pollock, a member of the Poverty and Housing Advocacy Coalition. “It was supposed to take place but it didn’t. They changed their mind.”

Pollock said police and bylaw officers were on hand Wednesday, along with a pair of trucks, presumably to move the people staying behind the Y to another location.

Tech issues at city hall have foiled Ward 2 Coun. Michael Vagnini’s good intentions to learn more about Project Now.
“I was supportive of looking at the option to look at Project Now,” he said Wednesday. “But my microphone kept kicking in and out and I didn’t have good reception.”

Vagnini thought the group was voting to defer the study until the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal has rendered a decision on the Kingsway Entertainment District; however, they were actually voting on a motion brought forward by Ward 1 Coun. Mark Signoretti and Ward 4 Coun. Geoff McCausland.
