A Providence man charged in 1st District Court with sexually assaulting a young woman pleaded guilty to amended charges on Wednesday.
Richard Royal Cornell, 74, pleaded guilty to single counts of first-degree forcible sodomy and second-degree forcible sexual abuse.
As part of a plea agreement, three first-degree felonies and a single second-degree felony were dismissed. Prosecutors agreed to a concurrent sentencing, and Cornell is to receive credit for time served, defense attorney Shannon Demler told the court.
Cornell has been held in the Cache County Jail since March 3, 2020, and charges were filed against him the following day.

Cache County prosecutor Dane Murray told the court Cornell had inappropriately touched and âorally sodomizedâ the alleged victim. Documents filed with the court state the victim was 19 years old at the time of the incident.
Chaz Yoyo Redfearn, 28, pleaded guilty to amended charges on Monday stemming from a police chase and a golf course wreck that happened last week.
Redfearn pleaded guilty to one third-degree felony and a misdemeanor for the incident. One felony and four misdemeanors were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
Redfearn offered mea culpas to the court, police and the golf course â explaining he crashed onto the green in order to avoid hitting a human being.

Documents filed with the court state Redfearn evaded police multiple times in a vehicle before driving into a fence at the Logan River Golf Course. Police wrote he drove an estimated 50 yards on the course before crashing into another section of fence. He merged back onto the roadway and crashed into a sign.
Wayne Bachmann, 70, was ordered to be held in the Cache County Jail after missing several 1st District Court appearances, having multiple warrants issued for his arrest and refusing to answer the courtâs questions on Monday.
Bachmann faces one third-degree count of failing to stop at command of police and six misdemeanors and infractions alleged to have happened in September 2019.
Documents filed with the court state Cache County Sheriffâs deputies attempted to pull Bachmann over while operating a vehicle that hadnât been registered for six years. Deputies wrote they had prior interactions with Bachmann and knew he didnât have a valid driverâs license. Bachmann was followed by deputies for nearly five blocks before stopping in front of a home in Hyrum; deputies wrote Bachman refused to exit the vehicle, keeping the doors locked and the windows rolled up.

OâLeary was slated to appear for a decision to prelim hearing on Jan. 20.
OâLeary was charged in November with four counts of first-degree aggravated robbery and two misdemeanors after depriving victims of a small amount of cash in downtown Logan. Documents filed with the court state OâLeary alluded to possessing a handgun during the incident and walked away from the four victims with six dollars.

Police wrote OâLeary did not recall the incident and that âhe hoped he didnât do it.â Nearby police pole cameras and security footage from businesses depicted a man matching OâLearyâs description during the time of the incident.
