Villages like bukah just to the northwest of kyiv. they re getting wiped out, the villages. the fighting between russian paratroopers and the yue crepian forces. it appears the russian plan is to sort of get a ride around that northern side and then we assume ultimately the troops we have seen having some success in the south will come up from there. it s a pretty long journey, 300 miles in most cases from where they are in the south. and they will then push in from the south. but clearly, if anybody thought the russians did think when this started that they might take kyiv very quickly. that clearly is not going to happen. but both sides have dug in and i think we re set for weeks, months of this before kyiv, the state of kyiv is really decided, shannon. jonathan, is the fighting forcing more and more to leave their homes near the capital.

[laughs] listen, i think she said with doing what we can we have limits with what we can do with helping the ukrainian people there is a feeling of helplessness and you have been a combat. you know these people are experiencing. some of the videos and the pictures are incredibly important to the world she was happening, but it s also absolutely heartbreaking. there s no doubt about it, shannon. there are a couple of things that we can draw conclusions, we can draw from this conflict. very clearly the indiscriminate harming of civilians and children and bombing, that is a sign that perhaps russia is in a worse place than they thought they should have been by this timeline. he is resorting, he s back in a corner, he can t seem to win this fight and so he is going to break the will of the people. so that is a sign that he sort of in the corner and we have to ask ourselves what else is he willing to do?
Climate change was the number one threat facing the world he doubled down and jen psaki said yes indeed it was. you ask the people here whether or not that s the greatest threat facing them, they would answer very, very differently. but looks, the nuclear issue is one that is coming into focus and a big win last. with the takeover of the nuclear facility, the largest in europe now and russian hands. it is a reminder both to the precariousness of the situation, no one is suggesting vladimir putin intends to use that yet although he has his own nuclear forces on high alert, but it it gives him such incredible control, control, it s a dormant weapon in his arsenal that he has that threat and also that he has the ability to turn off large parts of electrical supply to this country in the same way he can turn off electrical and gas supplies rather to europe. it is winter here, dead of winter, it s probably cold, he has many, many tools to his disposal now, this is another one. shannon quest
