FORT HOOD â The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center held a change of command ceremony at Sadowski Parade Field on Wednesday.
Command of the hospital was transferred from Col. Richard G. Malish to incoming commander Col. Daniel J. Moore.
Brig. Gen. Shan K. Bagby, commander of Regional Health CommandâCentral, served as the reviewing officer for the ceremony.
Bagby quoted famous American author Warren Bennis when he said, âLeadership is the capacity to translate a vision into reality.â
âCol. Malish embodied this quote before he even arrived here,â Bagby said.
Bagby said Malishâs vision resulted in expanding its community-based clinics into new quality, urgent, internet and phone care clinics, which improved health care access, reduced costs and provided same-day appointments.
18 JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 11, 2021) The San Antonio Military Health System has started the next phase of the Department of Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout expanding the scope of who is eligible to get vaccinated against the virus.
Brooke Army Medical Center has begun booking appointments for high-risk beneficiaries ages 16 to 64 and is now administering the vaccine to high-risk beneficiaries ages 16-64 and beneficiaries 65 and older at its vaccination site on Fort Sam Houston (main post). At this time, we are only booking appointments for known vaccine availability and as such appointments are limited. As more appointments become available in the coming weeks, beneficiaries will be able to schedule their appointments online or by calling the appointment line. BAMC will provide frequent updates on social media and the Joint Base San Antonio website.

SAN ANTONIO – The Brooke Army Medical Center will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to all TRICARE beneficiaries, ages 65 or older, next week by appointment only.
BAMC announced the vaccine appointments on Saturday afternoon, and officials say they were able to open up appointments for beneficiaries ages 75 and older earlier this week.
With record-cold temperatures and potential power outages looming in South Central Texas last week, Brooke Army Medical Center immediately launched into action to ensure continuity of patient care despite the impending storms.
With safety at the forefront and to conserve resources, BAMC first delayed all non-urgent medical appointments and procedures to ensure emergency services and trauma support to the city remained unaffected. This measure enabled patients and non-emergency-essential staff to stay off icy roads and safely at home.
“As a Level I Trauma Center, it is vital that we maintain our critical care mission and support to our community partners, while ensuring the safety and well-being of our service members, patients and staff,” said BAMC Commanding Army General Brig. Gen. Shan K. Bagby.
