ALBANY When the city s violence steals another life, grieving families often turn to the Rev. Avery Comithier.
The funeral for Shanita Thomas, 32, killed in a January shooting on Central Avenue, was held at Comithier s Elijah Missionary Church. The funeral for 18-year-old Chyna Forney, killed earlier this month, also happened there.
On Saturday, the church will host those mourning LaShon Turner, a 39-year-old shot and killed Friday near where Central meets Henry Johnson Boulevard.
And just a few days after, the funeral for 15-year-old Destiny Greene, who died Monday when men opened fire on a parked car in which she sat, will be held at the church in the city s South End.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family of an Albany murder victim with her funeral costs.
Police say Shanita Thomas was one of five people shot during a large gathering on Central Avenue Saturday night. Thomas was rushed to Albany Med but later died, while the other four victims suffered non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made but police say the gunfire may be connected to a dispute between violent men in the community. They re asking anyone with information to call them.
