Shan Visser lost her hands, feet, nose, lips, and tip of her tongue to sepsis after she was bitten by a mongoose in 2017. She spent two weeks in a coma for nearly two weeks and had to have all four limbs amputated due to sepsis, also known as septicemia. In a very short space of time, the 34-year-old mother and businesswoman became a quadruple amputee.

Image: Supplied The story of Shaninlea Visser touched people s hearts when she lost her hands, feet, nose, lips and tip of her tongue to sepsis after she was bitten by a mongoose in 2017. The KwaZulu-Natal mother, who has a teenage daughter, collapsed two days after being bitten while at her daughter s school function. She felt like her hands and feet were on fire. She was taken to hospital and put into a two-week coma while doctors carried out the amputation of her limbs. Four years later not only has she made a miraculous recovery from what was supposed to be a fatal infection surviving at least 66 reconstructive surgeries she has bounced back into public life, not to tell her story, but to help others who faced similar life adversities share their stories and motivate others.

Quadruple amputee inspires others in The Shan Show Share Quadruple amputee Shaninlea Visser has launched an inspiring new online talk show aimed to inspire others through sharing her life experiences. “The Shan Show”, filmed by Alfacam and Blade Studios, who are also responsible for shows like “Survivor SA” and “The Voice SA”, will feature the 34-year old mother talking about how a mongoose bite led to her entire life being turned upside down. From loosing her hands, legs, nose and upper jaw, to having 60 surgeries thereafter, but still fighting to survive for the sake of her daughter, Shan’s story is motivating and will move viewers.
