Beijing should commit to democratic reforms and conduct good-faith dialogue with Taiwan, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Chiu Tai-san (邱太三) said yesterday, echoing President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) “four musts.”
As China pursues modernity and national power, the MAC calls on Beijing to share the benefits of economic prosperity and political power with its people, Chiu told a conference on political, economic and social trends in China at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei.
Transfers of power within the Chinese government should be regulated by institutions, he said.

1st ever “Polish Apple Night” held in Taipei
The Polish Office of PAIH in Taipei on April 29 held its first-ever “Polish Apple Night” to promote Poland’s apples in Taiwan and to expand bilateral cooperation within the food industry.
The event took place at Shangri La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel last week and was organized in partnership with the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) and the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), according to a Polish Office press release.
In his opening remarks, Acting Head of the Polish Office in Taipei Bartosz Rys said, “We believe that Polish apples will find loyal and satisfied buyers among Taiwanese people. The main reason for that is a very strong position of Poland among the world’s top apple producers and exporters.”
