NEW DELHI: The US intelligence officials have blown the lid off a high-profile honey-trap mission carried out by a Chinese woman to target several top politicians, including mayors and a Congressman, according to a report by Axios.
The suspected Chinese intelligence operative developed close ties with several local and national politicians between 2011 and 2015 to gain proximity to political power, the report revealed, quoting current and former US intelligence officials as well as one former elected official.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has long-held aspirations for global power. The CCP’s goals have not been a secret and world powers have started to become vary of the Chinese government s hostile actions. Under President Xi Jinping, the Party and the Chinese government have increased their foreign interference and espionage operations.
A recent data leak of classified CCP documents has revealed the names, positions, birthdays, and ethnicity of 1.95 million CCP members employed in large multinational companies as well as in the consulates and missions of foreign governments in Shanghai.
Shanghai-Based Diplomatic Missions Inadvertently Hiring CCP Members Amid Major Data Leak
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has been prompted into action following the revelations.
At least 10 Shanghai-based consulates, including the Australian, American, British, German, Swiss, Indian, Italian, New Zealand, and South African missions had CCP members working in senior positions, according to The Australian.

One intelligence source told The Australian that ASIO had begun investigating the matter saying: “There’s intelligence-gathering going on.”
