Town caretaker-manager Bryan Klug felt the Blues squad couldn’t have given him any more during the 2-2 home draw with Middlesbrough in his final game and throughout his four-game tenure as temporary boss.
Boro sub Patrick Bamford’s goal deep in injury time saw Middlesbrough grab a 2-2 draw against the Blues at Portman Road. Freddie Sears had put Town ahead with his second goal in two games but Stewart Downing equalised for the Teessiders on 71. Martyn Waghorn thought he’d scored the winner with his 16th of the season from the spot after Championship debutant sub Shane McLoughlin had won the penalty, but Bamford headed the leveller six minutes into time added-on.
Luke Varney and Shane McLoughlin both scored twice, Adam McDonnell netted a penalty and Larsen Touré curled home a brilliant freekick as Town’s U21s thrashed Bristol City 6-1 at Playford Road. All the Blues’ goals came in the first half with the Robins’ solitary reply Shawn McCoulsky’s penalty kick nine minutes before the end.
