UF Health will soon be changing where and how it treats patients with mental health issues depending on whether that is the primary need or secondary to physical health.
The 10-bed psychiatric unit at Shands on Archer Road will be closed for renovation and then reopened to care for patients whose primary needs are physical but with underlying mental health issues.
The 81-bed Shands Psychiatric Hospital at 4101 NW 89th Blvd. formerly known as Shands Vista will concentrate on the mental health of patients.
UF Health Chief Operating Officer Traci d’Auguste said the moves will allow a broader range of services, increase efficiency and provide staffing that is more tailored to patients needs.
