Dr Shamim Wani, a senior Jammu and Kashmir government officer, has died of Covid-19 at Jammu.
Dr Shamim Ahmed Wani, 54, a 1999 batch KAS officer, currently posted as Special Secretary Finance, died of Covid-19 at Jammu Medical College. He had given only two years out of the finance department when he was DC Kulgam. His death has shocked his colleagues who knew him as positive, soft-spoken and somebody who knew his job well, the public finance. A resident of Pandach in the Srinagar periphery, Shamim is survived by his wife, a dental surgeon, and a daughter who has just been enrolled for graduation. His sister; a widow, was also almost dependent on the officer.

While recalling his association with the late officer, the SEC described Mr Shamim as a dedicated, soft spoken and intelligent officer. The SEC noted that Dr Shamim A Wani served with great commitment and professionalism in the committee constituted by the Government last year for coming up with a road map for providing relief to the industries and commerce sector of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which had taken a hit due to the Global COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Shamim Wani felt greatly concerned for the poor and marginalized as also for others who were genuinely impacted by the adversity, SEC recalled.

Dr Shamim Wani, a senior Jammu and Kashmir government officer, has died of Covid-19 at Jammu.
“Just received a shocking news that Dr. Shamim Ahmed Wani KAS Special Secretary Finance, Ex DC Kulgam, passed away due to COVID,” Aamir Ali shared the brief information on his WhatsApp. Reports sad he breathed his last at 11:30 am at GMC Jammu, where he was admitted some days back.
No words to condone the covideath of Dr Shamim a colleague in the commercial taxation. We worked very closely during my stint in finance in Kashmir. Easily one of the best officers; knowledgable, resourceful & connected with all stakeholders. Khodai dinas jannatas manz jaai. RIP!
