Leaders confirm vaccine pledges, pressure China: G7 update

Reuters It’s the last day of the Group of Seven summit hosted on the southern English coast by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with the final communique confirming a commitment to provide 1 billion extra doses of Covid-19 vaccines for other countries. It also, as expected, backs US led calls for a fresh probe of the origins of the pandemic. The statement presses China over human rights and urges Russia to hold to account groups carrying out ransomware attacks from its soil. After some haggling, the final document falls short of the earlier language on a timetable to shift the balance of car buying away from gasoline to greener vehicles.

China Says US Seafood Ban Is Based On Lies – gCaptain

Share this article By Shamim Adam (Bloomberg) A decision by the U.S. to ban imports of seafood from Dalian Ocean Fishing is based on “lies” that the Chinese company used forced labor, according to the Communist Party-backed Global Times. The paper on Saturday cited experts who said the U.S. is widening its move against Chinese industries after allegations of forced labor by companies in the Xinjiang region. U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Friday said it will detain imports of seafood from Dalian Ocean with immediate effect. It’s the first such action against an entire fleet of vessels, after an investigation showed the company operated under all 11 of the International Labour Organization’s indicators of forced labor, including physical violence, withholding of wages, and abusive working and living conditions.
