Even so, the air was still electric with excitement as staff, performers and those lucky few who managed to get their hands on tickets to the opening-night cabaret, Why We Tell The Story: A Celebration of Black Musical Theatre, returned to the Stratford Festival.

It was a triumphant homecoming after more than 16 months of not knowing exactly when and how audiences could gather to enjoy live performances again.
And while Tuesday’s opening-night performance was held under a canopy in the Festival Theatre parking lot with no more than 100 audience members in attendance, there was certainly a feeling of relief – and hope – from both those who love live theatre and those dedicated to making it happen.
