One of the three major shrines constructed during the latter part of the Peshwa period, the Rameshwar temple was built during 1768-70 by Sardar Govind Shivram Limaye (Khasgiwale).
How a lake created by Peshwa Balaji Bajirao in the 1750s was filled up and levelled in the 1960s to make way for a larger park that attracts over 10,000 visitors a day today.
