December 22, 2020 On Monday in the Eastern District of New York, Geico, Geico Indemnity Co., Geico General Insurance Co., and Geico Casualty Co. filed a complaint against medical professional corporations and limited liability companies in New York and New Jersey, alleging that the entities have been operating a scheme that has billed Geico for thousands of no-fault claims for which the defendants purportedly were not eligible and those that were medically unnecessary and fraudulent.
New York’s no-fault laws require auto insurers to provide up to $50,000 in personal injury protection (PIP) benefits per beneficiary for expenses incurred through seeking medical care after an auto accident, the complaint explained. The state of Uttar Pradesh is in the grips of the draconian law called Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020. This ordinance is essentially based on the conspiracy theory of the Hindu nationalists that Hindu women are seduced or lured by Muslim men in order to covert them to Islam under the pretext of marriage. While the claim is not supported by even a shred of evidence in terms of official data about such conversions, the UP government has been relentless in its propagation of falsehood. The ordinance attracts imprisonment of upto 10 years and is a non-bailable offence. NEW DELHI (AA): Haidar Mansuri, 34, and 28-year-old Shabila Chand [both Muslim] in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh decided to get married after a year-long courtship.
Shabila left her home in Azamgarh to marry Kushinagar resident Haidar.
As they were about to get married on Dec. 8, someone informed the police and members of right-wing Hindu groups Bajrang Dal and Hindu Vahini, and they reached the spot. They alleged that the boy was a Muslim and girl a Hindu, which they claimed was a case of “love jihad”, a term used by right-wing groups alleging Muslim men target Hindu women for conversion to Islam by pretending that they love them.
