FRONTLINE NHS workers have been praised after a local hospital revealed it had no Covid patients in its ICU for the first time since October. Barrow MP Simon Fell gave his ‘heartfelt thanks’ to front line workers after the Royal Lancaster Infirmary reported on Saturday that its ICU was Covid free. And Dr Shahedal Bari, medical director at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust said the news was down to the efforts of the public and NHS staff. Restrictions placed on Morecambe Bay doctor amid investigation

BARROW: Furness General Hospital. CONCERNS over a surgeon have led to him having restrictions imposed on how he is able to work. A tribunal has imposed interim conditions on the practise of Dr Nallapuneni Venkata Suresh Kumar prohibiting him from working without supervision. The orthopaedics doctor had the restrictions imposed following an initial investigation by the health watchdog the General Medical Council. An external review is looking into concerns over patient safety in orthopaedics services at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust. Under the interim conditions the doctor is not allowed to work as a consultant and must be directly supervised in all of his surgical procedures by a clinical supervisor.
