Council members and advocates sounded the alarm that the loss of several CUNY programs could cost the city more money than it is saving, if students who need the support abandon their degrees and enrollment continues to plummet.
A small group of anti-police progressives have “hijacked” the Democratic Party and their ranks include City Council members who are trying to push the chamber further to the left on public safety issues, Mayor Adams claimed Thursday.
The council members toured the island on Thursday, accompanied for part of their visit by Mayor Adams’ new Correction Commissioner, Louis Molina. Councilwomen Sandy Nurse (D-Brooklyn) and Tiffany Caban (D-Queens) said they were told during the visit there were still jail units with no floor officers, a lingering problem resulting from the number of officers out on sick leave.
