This gives the TUF Dash F15 an important leg up over other RTX 30 laptops at the moment, as most Intel systems have settled for one of their older 10th Gen CPUs, like the Aorus 15G, or jumped ship entirely and gone with one of AMD s new Ryzen 5000 chips, like the Scar 15. This is because Intel haven t actually released their full suite of 11th Gen H-series chips yet, which means there aren t any direct replacements for CPUs like their popular Core i7-10750H.
Instead, Intel have only released three 11th Gen Tiger Lake chips at the moment, which have been specifically designed for thin and light laptops. Known as their H35 family, these combine the best bits of Intel s consumer-focused U-series with the gaming chops of their traditionally beefy H-series, bridging the gap between performance and power efficiency. Having recently kickstarted the race toward the best PCIe 4.0 SSD with the launch of their super fast 980 Pro, Samsung are finally expanding the rest of their 980 NVMe family. Much to my surprise, though, this isn t the long-awaited 980 Evo. Instead, Samsung appear to be diverging from their traditional Evo / Pro series with this latest NVMe drive, simply calling it the Samsung SSD 980. It s also a PCIe 3.0 drive, too, not the budget-friendly PCIe 4.0 you might have been expecting, so those looking for a cheaper way to get the latest and greatest of what SSDs have to offer might be disappointed. It is, however, quite a bit cheaper than previous Samsung drives, with UK pricing coming in much closer to my current favourite NVMe SSD, the stupidly good value WD Blue SN550 - and that alone is reason enough to be excited.

If the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 represents the very best of what gaming laptops have to offer in 2021, then the Gigabyte Aorus 15G is probably what you d call the next step down. It still has one of Nvidia s powerful new RTX 3080 graphics chips inside its slim black chassis, but it s the 8GB variant rather than the top 16GB one you get on the Scar. It also only has a 1920x1080 resolution display, albeit one with a higher 240Hz refresh rate, and its CPU is a fraction older as well, with Gigabyte choosing to stick with Intel s still very fast Core i7-10870H instead of opting for one of AMD s shiny new Ryzen 5000 chips. That s still a formidable set of specs, of course, and it s a potent combination for those after a top-notch 1080p gaming experience that will last for many years to come.
