Wigle Whiskey Helps Celebrate Groundhog Day With Limited Whiskey Release
Pennsylvania distillers Wigle Whiskey are joining forces with the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club to produce a limited edition whiskey to celebrate Groundhog Day.
The new release is a maple barrel finished straight rye whiskey named Phil’s Shadow in honor of Punxsutawney Phil, the famed groundhog that, for the past 135 years, has been forecasting the early arrival of spring or the lingering of winter. Wigle Whiskey is joined in the fun by Pennsylvania’s Threadbare Cider, who will be producing a rum raisin cider for the occasion.

You can’t make a pilgrimage to Punxsutawney this year to celebrate Groundhog Day on Feb. 2 because of COVID-19 restrictions, but you can spend some time with the world’s most famous groundhog anyway.
Customers who buy a bottle of Phil’s Shadow Maple Barrel Finished Whiskey or Phil’s Burrow Rum Raisin Cider from Wigle Whiskey and Threadbare Cider will receive a link for an exclusive meet and greet with Punxsutawney Phil himself on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m.
This is the 135th year that Punxsutawney Phil has been called on to forecast whether or not we will have an early spring based on seeing his shadow.
