Nevada Lawmakers Pass Bill To Move Ahead of Iowa as First Primary State | AM 600 WMT

By Jason Taylor Jun 1, 2021 IOWA - Another state is looking to replace Iowa to have the nation s first presidential primary contest. The Nevada state Senate passed a bill on Monday calling for it to hold the first primary in the 2024 election. The Iowa Democratic caucus was heavily criticized in 2020 after lengthy delays in reporting results. Democrats in Nevada also say the state has a more diverse population than heavily white Iowa and would better represent the country. The bill passed by the Nevada state Senate had been approved by the state House five days earlier and now heads to Nevada s Democratic governor.

Will Vote-by-App Ever Be Safe?

Will Vote-by-App Ever Be Safe? Even with strong security measures, Internet voting is still vulnerable to abuse from state-sponsored actors and malicious insiders. The push for online voting has been happening for years, but now that a major pandemic has hit the US, there is more incentive than ever for states and counties to try out online and mobile voting services. This summer, Delaware and West Virginia will allow online voting in their primaries, and New Jersey is also testing it in a municipal election. The Utah GOP recently used mobile voting in a virtual state convention. Other states and counties are likely to follow.

Megadonors Pour Record Amount of Money Into Get Out the Vote Effort for Dems

February 2, 2021 5:00 AM A rapidly growing $800 million dark money network helped anonymous donors pour a record amount of money into voter registration groups focused on increasing Democratic Party turnout ahead of the 2020 election. The Tides Foundation, an organization that allows left-wing donors to fund political activism anonymously, raised over $800 million across its nonprofit network in 2019, a dramatic rise over previous figures. Much of that money went to Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaigns in the 2020 election cycle, including the Voter Registration Project, Rock the Vote, and the Voter Participation Center, which exploit IRS nonprofit rules to register new voters in Democratic-leaning areas that helped deliver key battleground states to President Joe Biden. The IRS considers voter registration a charitable activity for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofits, provided it isn’t explicitly partisan.

Audit report suggests Iowa Democrats must make changes, but Iowa caucuses will likely stay

The app that was supposed to help caucus officials tabulate results from the Iowa Democratic caucuses malfunctioned on caucus night, leading to delays in the reporting of results.Caitlin Yamada/ Iowa State Daily Despite recently renewed attention and criticism of the Iowa caucuses and the state’s status as the first-in-the-nation presidential nominating contest, it’s likely the quadrennial tradition will continue, at least for now, according to political scientists at Iowa State University. The renewed scrutiny and media coverage comes after the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) on Saturday released the final report of the audit the party commissioned shortly after the 2020 caucuses. The audit, conducted by former Iowa Attorney General Bonnie Campbell and former federal District Attorney Nick Klinefeldt, chronicled the series of events that led to the chaotic breakdown of result reporting on caucus night and provided recommendations for improving the process in the future.
