Israeli forces operating across the Gaza Strip have repeatedly raided hospitals, alleging that the facilities are being used as command centres by Hamas militants.
Hamas denies the accusation and the Israeli military has shown no concrete proof of such command centres.
A released hostage told The Associated Press last month that she and over two dozen other captives had been held in Nasser Hospital. International law prohibits the targeting of medical facilities, but they can lose those protections if they are used for military purposes.
Israeli special forces stormed one of the few remaining hospitals in southern Gaza on Thursday, claiming Hamas had used it as a base and was keeping the bodies of dead hostages there.
