hello and welcome to our viewers in the united states and around the world. live from cnn world headquarters in atlanta, i m john vause, and this is cnn newsroom. texas officials are facing a growing number of questions as well as increasing criticism of law enforcement s response to the mass shooting at robb elementary. for two days now, the official count has been inconsistent, contradictory, and outright confusing at times with some major changes to some important details. did police exchange gunfire with the shooter as he entered the school? on tuesday and wednesday, the answer was yes. by thursday, no. the shooter was never confronted by a school resource officer or anyone for that matter. it just never happened. authorities say it took up to an hour before the gunman was killed, and during that time, police were calling for backup and evacuating students and teachers from other parts of the school, negotiating with the suspect himself, pinning him down in a classroo

a light show at the arc de triomphe will be shortened in order to keep the crowds small. back here at home, some extreme weather. 19 levees along the mississippi river threatened by historic flooding there. in downtown st. louis, the river is expected to crest today at 43.7 feet. that s nearly 14 feet over flood stage. since tuesday crews have been rushing to help residents who have been stranded in the floodwaters, including this man and his dog. they waited on the roof, of their house, for help to come before getting away. the death toll from flooding rises to 20 in missouri, and illinois. most of it was caused by people getting trapped in their vehicles after they drove into flooded areas. well the embattled comedian bill cosby arraigned on three felony sexual assault counts, in a case that s been simmering for nearly 12 years. the frail-looking 78-year-old, as you can see right here, made his way into a pennsylvania court with a cane in hand. he entered no plea, paid 10% of a
offers. a prosecutor has the ability to use diversion programs beings even on these types of charges. but generally that happens before trial. this defendant had a constitutional right to go to trial, and i think he went to trial because of the aggravated sexual assault counts. and i don t know what the plea offers were extended to him, but he had to make a decision. it would be 30 seconds, tom, that we have had a lot of talk about sexual assaults on campuses. absolutely. this is a tragedy. you hear about rape epidemic. sexual assaults and rapes happen. they should be prosecuted vigorously. there is also an epidemic of people making false allegations of rape. there is pressure on the prosecutors to bring this case. given the inconsistencies in the victim s story i don t think this case should have went to trial. i don t think he should have been charged. it should have been dealt with in some other way.
