lester holt came down here to talk to a number of folks and spoke to a fisherman who said that normally he s taking in $300 to $500 a week, maybe $600. he s only taking in right now $48 to $50 on a weekday. in fact, we have a little more of that interview. let s play it. the warming of our planet means the warming of the oceans. so when you mix that up with pollution, with sewage waste, with fertilizer run-off, these events can be catastrophic to the environment. anyone who knows jeff corwin knows that wasn t an interview with a fisherman but he was explaining the environmental issue here. economically, it s a big issue for floridians. it is. we have 1100 miles of coastline. we re as vulnerable to these kinds of things as anyone in the country. number two is, we ve been working on this as a state for years. and perceptionally, there
will be important for these people but the sewer systems have overflowed. you have sewage waste in this water with that comes gi infections, viral infictions, you have clouds of smoke from chemical explosions that are eye irritants. arthel: do you think they ll be doing the same thing out there? before you answer that, tell me what will happen would they be administering in terms of medicine, injections for the residents who are now displaced and staying at the shelters, now crowded shelters although they are doing the best to make it comfortable, but they are there with everyone, everyone is together. yes, they are. tetanus, that s number one, very important. a lot of loose metal in the
bacteria pathogens, anything on the surface of our streets, rooftops, parking lots, gets flushed into the storm drains and into our beaches with little or no treatment. the other thing we find is that there are cities that use combined sewers so they combined the sewage waste coming out of people s sewage systems with rainfall run offand the huge volume of rain that enters these systems simply over whems them and floods the water out to the beach. sounds kind of disgusting. let s go to where the top five worst beaches are and they re scattered around the country. we ve got indiana, california, michigan, massachusetts, they all have water vitals, reaching 70%. if you swim in water like that, what do you risk having happen to you? well, unfortunately, we find that this is a huge problem at beaches nationwide. it s not just limited to one state. we have problems with beaches in
