The Kogi State government will in 2024 spend N500,000,000 for the “production of customised staff of office for graded chiefs” amidst harsh economic conditions facing residents of the state. The amount is contained in the state’s 2024 appropriation bill of N258,278,501,339.00 signed into law by the immediate past governor of the state, Yahaya Bello. Bello who is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on 21 December 2023, signed the budget, tagged, “Budget of Consolidation and Continuity for Inclusive Growth” into law.
Governor Yahaya Bello, according to the 2023 budget performance report of Kogi State, spent the sum of N727,818,000 to purchase two Toyota buses for members of the State House of Assembly, SaharaReporters has confirmed. Further checks showed that the money was spent without appropriation or approval by the Assembly members. The report titled “KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT BUDGET PERFORMANCE REPORT QUARTER 3, 2023” was published on the Kogi State government website.
