The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-4 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The Dodgers took the lead after star Shohei Ohtani hit a 430-foot home run in the seventh inning. It was Ohtani's first home run since joining the Dodgers.
Zach Eflin took a shutout into the seventh inning, Isaac Paredes hit a three-run homer in a four-run fifth and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Tuesday night. Eflin (1-1) allowed three of his five hits and lone run in the seventh, then was removed after Jonah Heim's one-out RBI single. Heim also had a two-out run-scoring single in the ninth off Pete Fairbanks, who retired Leody Tavares on a game-ending flyout near the left-field wall with with two on.
Philadelphia spent most of the night taking advantage of Arizona’s moves in a bullpen game, building a three-run lead by the seventh inning. A bullpen meltdown of their own cost the Phillies a chance to take a commanding lead in the NL Championship Series. Craig Kimbrel gave up three runs in the eighth, including two on pinch-hitter Alek Thomas' tying homer into the Chase Field pool, and the Phillies lost 6-5 to the Diamondbacks on Friday to tie the NLCS at 2-all.
