Big|Brave: Vital | Music Review

Some records are greatly enhanced by the setting in which the listening experience occurs. Vital, by Montreal experimental metal trio Big|Brave, is an immersive, best-when-cranked-loud kind of record, so that means two options: headphones or you get out the big speakers. It sounds fantastic on either, but I highly recommend the latter. Place the speakers facing slightly inward towards you on your left and right and let her rip. Some facts: this is the band’s fifth LP, their fourth for adventurous heavy music label Southern Lord, their second engineered by Seth Manchester (The Body, Daughters, Lingua Ignota), and their first with drummer Tasreen Hudson, who joined the band for the tour supporting their previous record

BIG|BRAVE Shares Weighty Music Video for Of This Ilk

OUTBURN ONLINE April 21, 2021 Of This Ilk“—taken from their forthcoming album  VITAL which arrives on CD and Digital formats this Friday via  Southern Lord (with vinyl to follow on July 9th). About the new song and video,  BIG | BRAVE vocalist  Robin Wattie comments: ”This video and song is an ode to those that understand this all too well, all too deeply. There is a silent form of suffering that most do not share. It is a private shame that is very public. The percentage of the global population that take these painstaking, costly efforts in whitening, or rather more aptly, bleaching their skin is higher than a lot would understand, let alone, would ever consider. There is a billion dollar industry in injectables and cream-like products containing harsh and even life-threatening chemicals to lighten, clarify, and whiten one’s skin. This video is an ode to my younger self, and to all the other children, teens and adul

The Quietus | Reviews | Manslaughter 777

World Vision Perfect Harmony Bernie Brooks , April 15th, 2021 08:47 Lee Buford and Zachary Jones unite as Manslaughter 777, serving up a fantastic feast of breaks and bass on their debut LP, World Vision Perfect Harmony, says Bernie Brooks Some records you regret pitching. They resist analysis. Refuse it. Or perhaps, you subconsciously resist analysing them. These records leap unexpectedly from the stereo. A surprise attack, an exaggerated WHOMP as they bean you with an oversized mallet. Stars everywhere, and somewhere in your brain, somewhere primordial: This is. sick. Something approaching real awe, then something approaching love. And like love, you don t want to ruin it by picking at it or reasoning with it or examining it for inconsequential flaws. You don t want to ruin it by thinking. To diminish it in this way seems almost perverse.

The Drowned God – HM Magazine

The world of metal and hardcore was meant to evolve, and, in its evolution, it’s created a myriad of subgenres. It can create perplexing output from bands, making it tough to categorize. The Drowned God is one of those bands, embracing metalcore, hardcore, aggressive alternative. The good thing about this conundrum is that it’s still good music. The band released their first album, Moonbearer, in 2017, followed up in 2019 with I’ll Always Be the Same, the first release after they signed with Solid State Records. The label has been known to sign bands with incredible talent, flying under the radar in an oversaturated market. Andrew Voigt, a contributing writer to HM Magazine, sat down with Cody Golob, the lead vocalist and one of the original two members of The Drowned God, to discuss their upcoming record, the inspiration behind his writing, and a mutual love for sparkling water.
