Little League, McCurdy to Use City Fields

The Española City Council unanimously approved on April 27 two separate but similar memorandums of understanding with the Española Valley Youth Baseball and Softball Little League and the McCurdy Charter School that allows the organizations’ use of several city ball fields.     Community Services Director Scott Frost presented the memorandums at the April 27 city council meeting, which had been previously approved at the Community Services meeting the week prior.     The Little League will have use of the Valdez and Ranchitos Park fields, the Veterans Memorial Park softball field and softball field #2 at the Industrial Park Road sportsplex.     McCurdy will have use of the Ranchitos Park field and softball field #1 at the sportsplex.

Show and Shine Back at Plaza

The Show and Shine Car Shows will resume this summer after the Española City Council approved an agreement at its April 27 meeting with Isaac Romero to use the Plaza for several Saturdays this summer, beginning May 22.     “This is something that utilizes the Plaza area,” Community Services Director Scott Frost said while presenting the agreement. “They clean up after themselves. It’s a very popular event here in the city and hasn’t presented itself as an issue at any point in the past.”     Councilor Denise Benavidez said they need to follow COVID-19 requirements, which have recently been eased state-wide by the governor despite upticks in daily new cases in Rio Arriba County and elsewhere.
