Republicans voted with the democrats to Petition Congress to act. We now have a republican cosponsor for a constitutional amendment that walter jones from the carolinas. Saying, you know, look as a conservative republican, i think it has to happen. We have to have a fair fight. Our argument is that our job is to go out and say, look, we can have honest differences on all sort of fundamental issues. We ought to have a politic that work in this country. I think theres a ton amount of space. We have not begun to occupy that space. We have not begun to make the demands for the structure changes. Its time to do that. Its time to say that a conservative republican and a liberal democrat ought to be able to agree that everyone should be able to vote. Our elections should have meaning and that votes taught matter more than the dollar. Im delighted. If thats the frame work of the debate ill debate anybody on the issue. I am delighted to be here today. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act and honoring the latino lawyers past, present, and future whose struggles and successes represent the vitality and of the root of the Civil Rights Movement. Congratulations to our honorees. You are a credit to the trail braze trail blazing latino lawyers without whom the professor would be talking after lunch. And congratulations to the h nba for putting on such a terrific conference. Respectful of those who have brought us to where we are today, inspiring to those of us who seeks to lead down, and supportive of those who will take us into the future. But an important reminder to us all, the Civil Rights Movement is not a static even from 50 years ago reported on a grainy blackandwhite newsreel. It is
Community. During my years as and americorps vista at the Los Angeles Free clinic i realize that where a child eats, sleeps, place, and goes to school profoundly impact self. I felt the gravity of poverty. I learned the power of resilience. My experience fundamentally changed me. I am now a pediatrician at uc s f Childrens Hospital oakland. [applause] i served a love. Twenty years ago i took a place to make our communities safer, smarter, and healthier. I carry this place with me every day. S. Americorps we elevate our nation by being an indispensable force club promoting resilience in the face of adversity. Together we strengthen american. As americorps and americorps alums we get things done. Control centers that manage all our cell sites. We have about 300 cell sites per switch and in the bay area we have about 4 switches. What we have there is also backup power so we have batteries, we have generators, not only one generator, sometimes we have 3 generators to account for failure for one of those generators. Then in these switchers we have servers, fiber optics, all kinds of equipment to process calls from one point to another and we have backup systems on top of backup systems to support that. Every failure point pretty much is addressed in the design of our network. One thing thats important to mention as well is not only to make sure the network is available to handle calls but also do we have enough capacity to support surges of traffic . So in cases of emergency, did we have the Resources Available for that . Well, no network is perfect that can handle unlimited amount of traffic. Our network can handle about 200 to 300 percent increase of traffic for emergency situat
Put that together and get it to them. They are worried about the incident in their jurisdiction which they have to correct. Its our responsibility to reach bond those borders as their extension to bring in the reserves that they need to maintain that kaupblt newt of operation and then where we function through the state Utility Operations Center and the state Operations Center to make sure that we have that kind of access and that kind of assistance. We need caltrans, were going to need chp, were going to need cal fire, we need dwr, they are invested in restoring their Critical Infrastructure and its our responsibility to reach across those lines to get that kind of access to keep that kind of restoration underway.
