Minister announces plans to increase critical care capacity, number of new beds to be added in Cork
Further beds are to be provided in Cork under phase two of the plan which will see a further 117 beds added through the development of new build capacity at five prioritised sites, including Cork University Hospital, subject to approval processes.
Critical care capacity is to be increased at hospitals in Cork.
The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly has announced a strategic multi-year plan to expand adult critical care capacity nationally from 255 beds to 446 beds.
Work on Phase One of the plan has already commenced and will see 321 adult critical care beds in place by the end of 2021, compared to 255 at the start of this year.
