The 2020 HONORS for the Town of Smyrna Mar 06, 2021 at 08:02 am by WGNS Lifetime Service Award Winner (L to R): Coon Victory, Lifetime Service recipient Ed Gleason, and Mayor Mary Esther Reed (SMYRNA, TN)  Mike Moss, Smyrna Parks and Recreation Director, is pleased to announce Ed Gleason as the 2020 Kenneth “Coon” Victory Lifetime Service Award winner and Sandra Kamel as the 2020 Young Leader Award winner.  Both individuals were honored at a modified Volunteer of the Year event held earlier this evening. Lyle Edwin “Ed” Gleason has been a fixture in the Smyrna softball community for nearly 50 years.  He began volunteering in 1972, coaching youth softball and was an advocate for the organization of the Smyrna Girls Softball League and a dedicated park for this league to play.  Ed has served as a coach, umpire, and scorekeeper in youth and adult softball leagues, as well as a coach, referee, and scorekeeper in the Smyrna Girls Youth Basketball Lea

OEFFA announces 2021 award recipients

The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) has named the 2021 recipients of its Stewardship and Service awards.   Jan Dawson and Andy Reinhart of Logan County received the Stewardship Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the sustainable agriculture community, and Steve Edwards of Warren County received the Service Award, which recognizes extraordinary service in support of sustainable agriculture. “Over the course of more than 40 years, this organization and the broader sustainable food and farm movement, have been built by the tireless efforts of farmers, conscientious consumers, educators, researchers, retailers, and others.
