An understanding of what the corps is all about. It explains its history and some of the traditions that we have. Texas a m was actually opened on october 4, 1876, but unfortunately, they didnt have the student population that day to actually start classes. So on october 6, 1876, two days later, it actually opened its doors to 40 students. From that point to today, where we are not only the Largest University in the state of texas, but we started the year as the Largest University in the united states, we have approximately 60,000 students here on campus of which 2300 of those were members of the corps of cadets. Welcome, and we are re the satoe wr thoswho mi akertu so that part of quakerism i belong to, we call it a Friends Meeting rather than a Friends Church although there is such a thing as a Friends Church, and we worship in silence. So we sit in silence and wait upon the spirits and then people might speak out of the silence as they are moved by the spirit. So in an hour we might get a few messages. And then we just kind of return to the silence and stay in that space. We dont have ordained clergy, we all take responsibility and we do everything by committee which often happens in churches. And in a quaker community, what would be some of the other activities are ministries that might occur there . Theres always been a close relationship in our tradition between our faith and our actions, particularly work in the world related to social justice, the environment, and so forth. So theres a lot of work, we have committees to do that. We also have a worship and Ministry Committee and a Pastor
State Health Officials are responding, from austin this is 50 minutes. I cannot tell if youre ready or not. Its good to go. All right, very good i want to thank everybody for being here today, we are here today to let texas know about the abundant Hospital Capacity that exist to treat texans who may test positive for covid19. Now understand the context that were dealing with, we are in the middle of a short period of time where all of us have to coexist with covid19 and the reality is, covid19 still exist in texas, it exists in the United States as well as across the entire world. This is going to continue to be the case for at least a few more months until we have medicines that are able to treat people who test positive for covid19 and until we have medicines that can prevent people from getting covid19. Remember this, go back to march and april earlier this year when there was a nationwide effort to slow the spread of covid19 so we would be able to prevent hospitals fr being overrun
Well, this was the scene last night as protesters tore down statues at golden gate park. The monuments were of Francis Scott key, former president ulysses s. Grant all torn down. It all comes over the debate of the legacy of the historic figures. Reporter the city says their crews worked through the night after the statues were pulled down and today just the pedestals are left. Today people came by to have a look and weigh in. Cleanup was under way early in golden gate park. Pedestals were there, but three statues were gone. Stephen exercises here and has some experience. I also think about if there arent other statues depicting those who were oppressed so im not sad. G reporter we obtained video of the monuments being pulled down. Last night Police Say People showed up and at one point bottles were thrown at officers. Key composed the starspangled banner and was known to own slaves. The country is not ready to admit to a lot of things that has happened, and i think that people now are
