founding partner of the states project, the group that compiled this data and works for both state legislative campaigns. i want people to know that he is also a former state legislator himself, a former state senator from new york. you are more than qualified i think to be leading these efforts. let s show folks the stakes that you investigated for 2022. arizona, nevada, minnesota, pennsylvania and new hampshire. daniel, spell this out for us because these are all states that are very important when it comes to the electoral college and that cannot be a coincidence. absolutely, and you talked about it in terms of policy and we just heard the secretary of state in arizona talking about it in terms of democracy. the answer is, it s both of those things. every one of these is a close swing state, we have a majority of republican lawmakers, who have signaled that they do not believe and legitimate election
insinuate that elections are not secure, distrust in the process after the 2020 election. she even posted a tweet warning that, quote, without election integrity, we will cease to be the greatest nation in the world. gilbert has also made statements about voter fraud in elections. these are all just baseless claims. are you concerned that these claims have taken up root in ohio s 13th congressional district. hi, simone. thank you for having me on today. absolutely, we are concerned. this election is certainly going to help determine where our democracy looks like in the future. my opponent is one who has been identified as one of the election deniers on the ballot this year. we are doing everything we can to make sure that she does not find herself as a member of congress. we have way too much at stake this election cycle to allow for people who truly do not believe in fair and free elections. that s why it is so important for me to work very hard to
they fill up their gas tanks are when they go to the grocery store, but at the same time, democracy is at stake in this election. it is a dual message that i think some democrats are having more success with and others. they are out canvassing with candidates over the last couple days and certainly, when you talk to voters, when you go knock on doors, voters are not bringing up democracy. they re not bring up january 6th. when the candidates press them on, them they do bring it up. but the first thing they talked about was the economy. it was the trouble they were having making ends meet. what can you do about inflation? what can you do about gas prices? i think that s really an area where democrats need to find the balance of discussing the broad issues that matter. the future of democracy and also discuss issues that people discuss every day. you know, i think this is absolutely key. democracy is an overarching umbrella issue.
