He talked about fixing obamacare to health care ceos. He listened in on Parent Teacher conferences at a school in florida. Oddly, so did i. And, of course, on tuesday in his address to congress, he hit it out of the park. Of course, it helped that the park was the size of a yoga9 mat, meaning expectations were so low, his potential for killing it was high. Mind you, low expectations are awesome. My success is based on everyone thinking that i suck. [laughter] but it didnt help the democrats that before the speech the media obsessed over a picture of Kellyanne Conway on a couch. Oh, the outrage. But worse things have happened on that couch. [laughter] [applause] hey, just to clarify, rumor has it that for one year bill clinton actually disguised himself as the couch. [laughter] poor madeleine albright. Scarred her for life are. Got out of politics. But trumps performance was so focused, its as if he took all my advice and my adderall. Saying the assad regime would pay a heavy price. Good morning. Its tuesday, june 27th. With the grinding down, the cbos assessment of the Senate Health care plan is making it that much harder for republicans to push it through. The Nonpartisan Group found that over the next decade 22 Million People fewer people would be uninsured compared to obama care, and that deficit savings would largely come on the back of cuts in medicaid, spending 772 billion. Of the 15 Million People who would no longer be on medicaid as a result of the new law, the cbo forecast most would not purchase private coverage since the senate bill would encourage them to purchase plans whose premiums and deductibles are too high to be attractive options. The plan would reduce the deficit by 320 billion. At first the cbo premiums would go up, but by 2026 the premiums could be 20 lower compared to obama care. Still, that doesnt account for reductions in coverage for out of pocket costs and changes to subsidies, and the
sense of legitimacy. yeah. and politically what he s trying to do is keep his base. that s been their strategy from the beginning. i m not sure it was wise. if you are at 46% of the vote, you would think you would want to reach out to voters. basically, it s always been a base strategy. and certainly on the russia investigation, a base strategy. how do you keep your base. it s totally politics. they re not investigating hillary clinton. and to question whether there s inappropriate russia engagement in the election, interference in the election, is to question you, the voters, and that you made the right decision. so in that respect, it s reasonably intelligent, if your strategy is to keep the 40, 41% or whatever who approve you. that obviously doesn t prove anything about the actual fact of what russia did in the election. what is the impact, as you re seeing it, ambassador mcfaul, on u.s. policy toward russia? we re already seeing that congress is going to get through the sanctio
i also want to bring in michael mcfaul, former u.s. ambassador to russia. always good to see you, ambassador. so when you look at this statement, i thought one of the striking things was his description of his meetings with the russian ambassador, sergei kisliak, and he said i hoped to arrange the speech by then candidate trump, i met with a lot of officials from foreign governments. i was introduced. we had pleasantries, speaking about kisliak. but he said it didn t stay with me to the point where later i had to ask somebody even what the name of the russian ambassador was. i wonder what you thought as you read this statement today, and anything that might have raised flags for you. well, on the one hand, of course, when you re at a big event and there are lots of people there, you don t remember who you re talking to. i can be sympathetic to that rendition. but the more fundamental question is why was kisliak at
