Premium Content A mature-aged Moranbah man was caught drink driving after enjoying a bottle of wine. William Browning Cullen pleaded guilty at Moranbah Magistrates Court on March 11 to driving over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit. Cullen was intercepted by police for a roadside breath test at 7.10am on February 22 on Moranbah Access Road and told police he had enjoyed a bottle of wine with dinner the night before, the court heard. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Cullen returned a Blood-Alcohol Content reading of .061. Magistrate Robert Walker questioned how many bottles of wine Cullen consumed, considering his reading “at that time of the morning”.

'It's hard': Mum brought to tears in CQ court

Premium Content Subscriber only A Central Queensland mother-of-four broke down in tears as she faced court for the first time over a drink driving offence. Krystal Ann Wilson, 37, who represented herself, pleaded guilty at Clermont Magistrates Court on March 10 to driving under the influence of liquor. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Wilson, who had no traffic history, was stopped for a roadside breath test on Tropic Street, Clermont, at 6pm on February 14. He said she returned a positive result and later recorded a Blood-Alcohol Content reading of .168, more than three times the legal limit. The Clermont mother, who was accompanied by her husband, told the court she was extremely remorseful and had been walking to work since the offence occurred, and getting lifts where she could.

Young man, 21, back in court after drug driving in CQ

Premium Content Subscriber only A young man was caught drug driving near Yeppoon, with two bags of cannabis in the car at the time. Lachlan John Geiger, 21, pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to possessing utensils or pipes for use, possessing dangerous drugs and driving while relevant drug is present in saliva. On November 29, 2020, Geiger was driving on Waterpark Rd at Weerriba, just north of Byfield, when he was intercepted by police patrolling the area. Geiger returned a positive drug test and further tests later revealed the presence of cannabis. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Geiger made admissions to consuming drugs the night before the offence and told police there was cannabis inside the vehicle.

Teen in organised fight with 20 people to 'resolve dispute'

A Blackwater teenager was charged after being part of an organised fight in the Central Queensland mining town. Blackwater police responded to reports of an organised fight at Sagittarius Rd about 2.20pm on January 15, police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp told Blackwater Magistrates Court on Friday. On arrival, officers located five vehicles and saw about 20 people in a circle around two people fighting each other. Police recognised Triston Brandon Lee Major, who was involved in the fight, and when spoken to he said he arranged the fight to solve another dispute, the court heard. Major, 19, pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to committing public nuisance.
