Young man, 21, back in court after drug driving in CQ

Premium Content Subscriber only A young man was caught drug driving near Yeppoon, with two bags of cannabis in the car at the time. Lachlan John Geiger, 21, pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to possessing utensils or pipes for use, possessing dangerous drugs and driving while relevant drug is present in saliva. On November 29, 2020, Geiger was driving on Waterpark Rd at Weerriba, just north of Byfield, when he was intercepted by police patrolling the area. Geiger returned a positive drug test and further tests later revealed the presence of cannabis. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Geiger made admissions to consuming drugs the night before the offence and told police there was cannabis inside the vehicle.

Teen caught speeding 31km/hr over limit on CQ hwy

An unlicensed teenager was caught driving more than 30km/hr over the speed limit on a Central Queensland highway. Janaya Paige Ebony Port, 18, pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to disobeying the speed limit and driving a motor vehicle without a driver s licence (never held licence). Police Prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said police were patrolling the Capricorn Hwy about 4pm on January 15 when they saw a vehicle travelling towards them at 131km/hr, according to the radar. The highway was a signed 100km/hr zone. Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to Port, who was driving. She said she had just overtaken another vehicle but knew she shouldn’t be speeding.

Teen in organised fight with 20 people to 'resolve dispute'

A Blackwater teenager was charged after being part of an organised fight in the Central Queensland mining town. Blackwater police responded to reports of an organised fight at Sagittarius Rd about 2.20pm on January 15, police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp told Blackwater Magistrates Court on Friday. On arrival, officers located five vehicles and saw about 20 people in a circle around two people fighting each other. Police recognised Triston Brandon Lee Major, who was involved in the fight, and when spoken to he said he arranged the fight to solve another dispute, the court heard. Major, 19, pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to committing public nuisance.

Drunk miner drives down embankment to avoid police

A 30-year-old mine worker drove down into an embankment in an attempt to flee police while drink driving. Jared Reece Borghero pleaded guilty at Blackwater Magistrates Court on February 5 to driving under the influence of liquor. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Borghero was intercepted by police about 11.25pm on January 22, at a mining camp at Bluff. The officers were patrolling the Jellinbah Mine camp on the Capricorn Hwy when they saw a white Ford Ranger run into the embankment, thinking it was involved in an incident. Sgt Cramp said officers smelled liquor on Borghero’s breath, who was the driver at the time.
