Gardai to stand trial for attempting to pervert the course of justice

A NUMBER of serving Limerick gardai and a retired garda superintendent are to stand trial for attempting to pervert the course of justice over a three-year period.
The five defendants were charged last month following a two-year investigation which was led by members of the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
This morning, Detective Chief Superintendent Walter O Sullivan of GNBCI gave evidence at Limerick District Court of formally arresting and charging all five at Mayorstone garda station in the city on April 29.
None, he said, made any reply to charges which are contrary to common law.
Prison sentence for Limerick motorist caught driving without insurance for sixth time

A MOTORIST who was caught driving without insurance for the sixth time has been sentenced to one month s imprisonment.
Ali Asar Haudhry, aged 47, who has an address at Ard na Luachra, Lower Park, Corbally was before Limerick District Court to face multiple charges relating to an incident at Dublin Road, Limerick on November 8, 2018.
Sergeant Michelle Leahy said while operating a checkpoint at 12.40am, gardai stopped a Toyota Corolla which was being driven by the defendant.
She said the vehicle was not taxed and did not have a valid NCT. It was subsequently established that Mr Haudhry was not insured.
Young man charged with deception over fraudulent sale of face masks to Limerick shops

A YOUNG man who is accused of fraudulently offering to sell boxes of face masks to a number of Limerick shops has been charged with deception.
Joseph McDonagh, 21, who lives in a caravan at Drumbiggle Road, Ennis, County Clare appeared before Limerick District Court after he was charged with four offences contrary to section 6 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.
The charges relate to incidents which are alleged to have occurred at four different retail premises in Limerick city on January 29, last.
Sergeant Michelle Leahy told the court there was no objection to bail subject to Mr McDonagh complying with a number of bail conditions including that he stays out of Limerick.

A YOUNG man who was arrested for public order offences twice in the same day is to be given a chance a judge has said.
Craig O Halloran, 23, of Oakfield Raheen was before Limerick District Court after he pleaded guilty to charges relating to separate incidents which occurred on November 21, last.
Sergeant Michelle Leahy said the first incident happened outside the Inver service station at Dublin Road, Limerick at around 1.30am.
She said gardai received reports of a man causing annoyance to customers and staff and that Mr O Halloran was verbally abusive and aggressive towards gardai when they arrived.
