The leaders of Serbia and Kosovo made no breakthrough in EU-hosted emergency talks on Thursday aimed at defusing tensions around their border. The European Union’s top diplomat said they agree on the need for early elections amid fears of a return to open conflict.
Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters on Saturday staged marches in Belgrade and other Serbian cities against President Aleksandar Vučić, pledging to “radicalise” weeks of peaceful gatherings that have already shaken his populist rule.
Belgrade and some other Serbian cities have seen mass demonstrations since two deadly shooting rampages in early May that killed 18 people and wounded 20 others, including elementary school pupils.
