Fresh off a major victory, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has heralded the government’s “modest intervention” into the energy market but issued a warning to gas companies against continued complaints as he flagged a potential domestic gas reservation policy.
Nationals leader David Littleproud has claimed the Albanese Government could have “fixed” the soaring gas and power prices had it addressed new investment in the resources industry.
Industry Minister Ed Husic has accused gas companies of ignoring public anger about surging prices as MPs from across Parliament descend into debate over supply shortages.
The Labor Government still holds out hope the gas industry will do the “right thing” to reduce prices despite the sector showing no sign of “acting in the national interest”, the assistant Manufacturing Minister Tim Ayres has said.
