Lincoln Land Community College Jennifer Haggerty of Chandlerville is among 72 students nationwide chosen as a Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholar.
Haggerty was chosen because of her achievements and will be given $40,000 a year for three years to complete her bachelor’s degree. She is a member Phi Theta Kappa honor society and is one of two Lincoln Land Community College students chosen for the 2021 All-Illinois Academic Team.
She was also named a 2020 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar.
Haggerty returned to college after 17 years in the workforce. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing and hopes to attend graduate school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Fort Payne High School senior Erica Hughes was recently named a semifinalist for the prestigious Cooke College Scholarship Program.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, on Jan. 25, 2021, announced the selection of 496 high school seniors semifinalists chosen from a pool of 5,860 applicants and represented 428 different high schools.
The highly selective scholarship provides exceptionally talented students who have financial needs with up to $40,000 annually for four years of college, enabling them to attend a top-performing college or university.
âItâs pretty surreal,â said Hughes. âIâve learned that the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship is a pretty prestigious scholarship, so I was surprised to get the call that I made it as a semifinalist.â
