Warnings of the deteriorating treatment of female prisoners in Iran come days after Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian national who has served a five-year prison sentence in Iran, was sentenced to a further year in jail and a year-long travel ban by the Iranian courts. Human rights campaigners said that in the past six months increasing numbers of Iranian women jailed for human rights and political activism had been moved from Evin prison in Tehran to prisons outside the capital city without warning.

Codir demands immediate release of trade unionists imprisoned in Iran

IRANIAN human rights campaigners in Britain have called for the immediate and unconditional release of all trade unionists imprisoned by the Islamist regime this May Day. Codir said today that scores of union and labour activists are languishing in Iranian prisons and face terrible situations. They includes Iranian Teachers Trade Association (ITTA) general secretary Esmail Abdi, ITTA executive member Mohammad Habibi, pensioner and campaigner Esmail Geraami, journalist and labour activist Marzieh Amiri and labour activist Sepideh Gholian. Codir, a group of trade unionists and other Iranian exiles, expressed its support for the struggle in Iran to obtain the release of all incarcerated labour activists.
