50+ ACTIVE LIVING: Looking forward to seeing each other face to face

Article content I was never one to bother with makeup too much, but I’ll admit I didn’t like to leave the house without a touch of lipstick. I suspect the cosmetic industry has noticed a big drop in sales with COVID. Why bother when your face is covered with a mask? I’ve read that some people put extra effort into making up their eyes, but really, is it necessary? I have found that it has become quite easy to read people’s expressions through their eyes, and most times, it is clear they are smiling. Recently we ate out and were the only customers aside from one other older couple across the room. I’ll call them couple A. Before too long, another couple, couple B, entered and, wouldn’t you know it, they were acquaintances of couple A. And because they were seated in yet another corner of the dining room, it was impossible not to overhear the catch-up conversation between the two couples. Now at this point, I will interject with the observation that gentleman B from the start was clearly having a lot of trouble hearing his wife, with “eh?” the reply to everything she said. Lady A mentioned she couldn’t see to read the menu because her glasses were being adjusted at the optometrist’s, whereupon Lady B replied that her husband couldn’t hear because his hearing aids were also in the shop.
