Doris Harper-Wills was born in Guyana where she gained recognition as a performance poet, storyteller and songwriter who choreographed her own scripts. Her first poem was published at the age of nine in ‘Wee Wisdom’, an international magazine produced by Unity School Of Christianity, USA. She has won several awards and prizes for her songs, short stories and performance poetry and has been aptly described as “A brilliant cultural patriot.” Doris’s stories are rooted in the history, legend and lore of the people who came to the C

The end of Michaelmas 2020 and my first term at Cambridge complete. It hadn’t been the first term I had been expecting by any means: Covid having robbed me of a proper freshers experience, and my friendship group limited to the people I had randomly been accommodated with.
Whilst Covid restrictions allowed it, a friend visited for a day trip in the week after term had finished. His reaction to the city was eye-opening to me. It was like seeing it for the first time again – he reminded me of the beauty around every corner, the magical feeling of the city, the wonder of the striking facades of King’s Parade and Trinity. It felt like it had been so long since I had seen these iconic sights. I had become numb to them. Worse, I had come to hate them, or at least what they represented.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) announced today that it will be appointing Professor Hans Tjio as the new Dean of its Faculty of Law (NUS Law). Prof Tjio will succeed Professor Simon Chesterman as NUS Law’s 15th Dean with effect from 1 July 2021.
A leading securities regulation scholar, Prof Hans Tjio is the CJ Koh Professor of Law at NUS Law, and Director of its EW Barker Centre for Law and Business. A graduate of both University of Cambridge and Harvard University, Prof Tjio has taught at NUS Law for more than 30 years, joining as a Senior Tutor in 1990 and rising through the ranks to full Professorship in 2006. He has nurtured many decades of outstanding law students who have made incredible contributions in legal practice, politics and different spheres of society.
