Operation Atlas: Search warrant locates firearms at Black Power-linked property

Statement to be attributed to Wairoa Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Maui Aben: A search warrant executed at a Black Power-linked residential address near Wairoa on Friday resulted in the location and seizure of firearms and ammunition. The search warrant, at a Lake Road, Frasertown property, was conducted under the umbrella of Operation Atlas – a multi-faceted police response focusing on the disruption and prevention of organised crime and gang-related offending across the Eastern Police district, with a current focus on Wairoa. Police located the following firearms and ammunition concealed at the rural property: · 1x Heckler & Koch .22 rifle · 1x Marlin .22 rifle

The four men, aged 20, 36, 45 and 54, were arrested by Wairoa Police on Wednesday with the support of the Hawke s Bay Impairment Prevention Team and the Gisborne Dog Section, Senior Sergeant Maui Aben, the officer in charge of Wairoa Police Station, said in a statement.  The gang members were apprehended for outstanding warrants or breaches of their bail conditions.  One man appeared in Gisborne District Court on Wednesday. The remaining three are due to appear this week.

But, revealing the meeting took place late yesterday, Gisborne-based police Tairawhiti (Gisborne, East Coast and Wairoa) area manager Inspector Sam Aberahama said there are incidents and details police are not being told about. He said it s all about red and blue – sometimes within a family and sometimes intra gangs rather than between gangs.
