Senior Spotlight: Sadie Hansen – Oakes Tornadoes

Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Senior Sadie Hansen of the Oakes Tornadoes has had a decorated final season, and, as the Region 3 Girls’ Basketball Tournament is set to begin tonight, Monday February 22nd, at the Jamestown Civic Center, Sadie was kind enough to take a few minutes to answer some questions about her high school career and senior season. (Key:  Bold text is the questions I asked Sadie.  Plain text is her full responses in her own words.   Italicized text is my own input to give background or extra insight.) Your team has had a great season so far.  What has been the most fun part of your senior year?

Tornado Girls Falter in First Test of Busy Week

Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – With three big games in the span of eight days leading up to the start of the District 5 tournament, the Oakes Tornadoes girls’ basketball team lost their first test to the #2 ranked Kindred Vikings 73-44 Monday night. While the game was over as a contest early, there was some excitement as junior Abby Duchscherer of the Vikings scored her 2,000th point of her varsity career.  The basket came with 1:40 remaining in the 3rd quarter on a runner from the left baseline, and the basket was followed by a timeout and well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd as acknowledgement of her accomplishment.

Tornado Boys and Girls Win in Saturday Double-Feature

Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Medina-Pingree-Buchanan Thunder visited Oakes on Saturday, and both the boys and the girls were stopped by the Tornadoes in two very different games. The girls were up first, and the Tornadoes wasted no time coming out strong, taking a double-digit lead in the first quarter.  Senior Sadie Hansen scored 16 points in the first quarter, outscoring the Thunder by herself, as the Tornadoes led 22-12.  The game never got closer than that, as the Tornadoes led 35-21 at halftime and won the game 60-36. Junior Ryleigh Martin was virtually the entire offense for the Thunder until the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points in the first half on her way to 20 for the game.  No other Thunder player scored more than four.
